Here you will find links to sites we believe are
worth visiting for one of these reasons:
Content, including layout or graphical elements
Software (usually shareware) that we feel is above
average and good value.
Services or features offered that we feel many
users will appreciate.
(Links are listed in the order we think of them - or
find them. Later, we may attempt some better organization.)
Joke a Day
If you enjoy a good laugh and don't mind that the jokes are
occasionally off-color, you should visit this site. You can also sign up for a FREE daily
(six times a week) e-mail with the joke(s) of the day. Although there's nothing really
objectionable here, some of the jokes - and some of the offerings at the web site - are
intended for a mature audience.
C-Net
This is a great spot to learn more about computers and to
download shareware. You can also subscribe to free newsletters.
Dilbert
When you need to know that your office isn't alone in the
netherworld of business insanity, call on Dilbert. If you don't know Dilbert, what's
keeping you sane?
GIF Movie Gear
This is the program we use to make virtually all of our animated
gifs. (Don't blame the program for my lack of artistic ability.) There are other great GIF
animation programs, but this one is hard to beat.
ByteCatcher
This is an FTP program that will automatically re-connect you and
continue a download/upload if your ISP cuts you off (or you are otherwise disconnected). I
now know it works, for I was cut-off while attempting to upload EduSuite last
night.
Paint Shop Pro
The premier shareware graphics program. We use it all the time.
It is much simpler to use than CorelDraw, and we haven't begun to explore all the
possibilities. Jasc now has a Canadian office so products can be sent from Canada - for
those of you who are fellow Canadians.
WinZip
Possibly the best-known file compressor and decompressor. Now it
can automatically install programs as well. Easy to use.
InfoBeat
Get your morning news delivered right to your desktop. InfoBeat
offers news, entertainment news, sports, weather and other free newsletters sent right to
your e-mail.
Xoom.com
Visit a world of home pages - or get your own free web page!
Tripod
Another world of web pages - and another source for your own free
web site.
Yahoo Mail
If you have access to the Internet, you can have your own free
e-mail, e-mail that you can access from anywhere, as long as you can get to the web!
(Incorporates RocketMail that we have discussed elsewhere.)
HotMail
Another source for free Internet-based e-mail. They've just been
purchased by Microsoft, so the service, name and address may change shortly.
Lipton's Recipe Center
Featuring a recipe of the day and a search engine.
Holiday of the Day
Did you know that every day is special to someone? Find out what
to celebrate today! Or, subscribe to a free e-mail and always have something to celebrate!
Xara 3D
Xara 3D is now available in a new version. Version 2
allows you to rotate your 3D creations vertically and a whole lot more. Also on the site:
There are now over 500 fonts available as well as Webster 2 a graphics program
just for the web. A site well worth visiting if you are creating web sites.
Mysteries
of Deep Space
This is a new series premiered on PBS on April 14, 1998. There's
also lots to explore on this web site as well. Take a trivia challenge, if you dare.
